The story behind the tee:
On August 16, 1969, Carlos Santana stepped onstage at Woodstock and delivered one of the most electrifying performances of all time — while fully tripping on LSD.
Expecting to have hours before showtime, Santana dropped LSD given to him by Jerry Garcia. Moments later, however, he was told he’d be performing immediately… in front of 400,000 people.
What followed was a blur of rhythm, sweat, and spiritual chaos. Santana’s face contorted in wild expressions as he wrestled with his guitar, which he later said had turned into a writhing snake he had to tame in real time — the fabled "electric snake."
Far from falling apart, he channeled the trip into pure musical transcendence, catapulting his band and career into stardom.
This piece is a tribute to that iconic moment.
